Sufferers' Rights and Mental Health Act
NHS Choices provides information about types of treatment and how to access them
NICE Guidelines set out what sufferers are entitled to in treatment, and how the family should be involved
Patient Advice and Liaison Services provide information about NHS services
Mind provide information about rights and laws
Direct Gov have a Your Rights in Health section with information about the Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act, and access to treatment
Mental Health
Mind is a mental health charity providing information, support and services to people affected by mental health issues either directly or through knowing a sufferer
Rethink is a mental health charity which aims to help those affected by mental health issues to recover a better quality of life
Mental Health Foundation provides information, carries out research, and campaigns to improve services for people affected by mental health issues
Children First for Health has information about health for children and family members
Young Minds provides information for parents, children and other family members
Complaints and Disputes
Patient Advice and Liaison Services (PALS) explain how to complain about NHS services which you feel have failed you
Independent Complaints Advocacy Services (ICAS) supports patients and their carers wishing to pursue a complaint about their NHS treatment or care
An Ombudsman is a person who has been appointed to look into complaints about an organisation, using an ombudsman is a way of trying to resolve a complaint without going to court
You could also try writing to your local MP, local NHS Trust, or getting in touch with your local mental health advocacy service, which you can find using the UK Advocacy Network (UKAN) website
